Hi, I’m Jana. I’m a data scientist, astronomer, and writer living in Brooklyn, New York. I recently completed the Insight Data Science program, and am a data science consultant with Schireson Associates. My background is in astrophysics where I studied dwarf galaxies and interstellar gas, and received my PhD in astronomy from Columbia University. I then was Kathryn W. Davis Postdoctoral Fellow at the American Museum of Natural History, where I taught future high-school science teachers with the Master of Arts in Teaching program, and a Simon’s Foundation Science Sandbox Fellow. I host shows at the Hayden planetarium and teach with the online Seminars on Science program.

I have been a long time travel agent and collaborator with Guerilla Science‘s Intergalactic Travel Bureau. I co-wrote a space travel guide, the Vacation Guide to the Solar System, and am involved in the development of a virtual reality space vacation app. I have collaborated with artists on paintings, performances,  essays, and events.
